"Being Spaces" Offer New Marketing Opportunities

One of the latest trends is Being Spaces, places to hang out and just be. In some cities they are spaces devoted to working or writing designed with workstations and a lounge for people to come and work where there are people around, but it isn't your office and it isn't home. Another version features office space for the parent and a play place for kids with a kitchen in between. Others are living-room like settings where people might watch a movie, play games, read a book or meet friends. These are usually member-only places.

Yet another extension of this trend are Being Spaces sponsored by companies for their clients in places like airports.

Other Being Spaces are commercial ventures like Starbucks.

There are several ways you might be able to incorporate this phenomena that obviously is meeting a real need in society. Sponsoring a Being Space in an airport is a great idea if you have many clients who frequently travel and you are large enough to afford it, but most companies won't be able to do that.

Another way to capitalize on this trend would be to partner up with some of these Being Space ventures.

Could you supply logoed office products, coffee mugs or cups, or other items that would get you widespread and repeated exposure through these Being Spaces? You'll obviously want to choose a Being Space based on its clientele and you'll want to choose what you supply based on the activities that occur at the Being Space.

You also might want to consider if setting up a Being Space makes sense for your business.

Do or might clients frequent your business? Creating a Being Space where customers could be comfortable working while they get their oil changed or car repaired might entice people to your shop over someone else’s who just has that typical tiny waiting room where all anyone can do is stare at an out-of-date magazine or, at best, watch a TV show they have no interest in.

Might parents frequent your hair salon, dentist office, doctor office, nail salon, coffee shop, etc., if they didn't have to pay a babysitter or find someone to watch their kids when they came in because you offered a play space for the kids?

If you decide to add a Being Space, be sure to let your clients know via direct mail containing an appropriate item to get their attention.
